Role and Purpose
RMIT Training Pty Ltd is a private company under the Corporations Act 2001 and a wholly owned subsidiary of RMIT University. Its purpose is to add value to the work of the university by undertaking roles that benefit from the separate legal/financial structure of a company.
The company has three roles:
- Operate sustainable, profitable businesses in support of the core educational work of the university

Spearhead business development for RMIT by supporting or leading commercial proposals and by sourcing opportunities for RMIT Portfolios
- Supply specified services to the university costed as donations to the RMIT Group.
The value that the company returns to the university is measured in several ways:
- Donation of services, funded from the profits of business operations (in 2005 $900k) and delivered within the low cost structure of the company
- Direct support to RMIT student recruitment (English language training for international students) and commercial operations (business development, in the domestic market and overseas)
- Widespread brand profiling, in particular in Asia and the Middle East and within the Australian knowledge industry
- In-house publishing service in support of RMIT research
