The RMIT English Language Test for Aviation (RELTA), a world leader in
the testing of English language proficiency for pilots and air traffic
controllers, recently achieved the milestone figure of 20,000 candidates
tested.
RMIT Training Chief Executive Officer, Rachel Holthouse, commented that
having 20,000 international candidates from around the world complete
RELTA is a wonderful achievement for RMIT English Worldwide and its
Aviation partners.
"While there are several competitors offering training and testing in
this area, RMIT English Worldwide continues to attract candidates from
around the globe. This is a testament to the quality of our products and
services" Ms Holthouse says.
"We focus on delivering training and testing that is world class. The
content is designed in-house and combines expertise from aviation and
English language experts to ensure our products remain reliable and
relevant to the aviation industry today. These products include new
Beyond Level 4 courses, designed to take the English proficiency of
pilots and air traffic controllers beyond operational level."
"We are very fortunate to have such a highly skilled, professional team
leading our work in Aviation English." Ms Holthouse stated.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) established a
deadline for pilots and controllers to have operational proficiency in
English by March 5th 2011. This requirement reinforces their objective,
to enhance global aviation safety. Tests such as RELTA assist the
industry to meet this key deadline.
About RELTA
RELTA is a test for pilots and air traffic
controllers who need accreditation under the language proficiency
requirements (LPRs) of ICAO, a United Nations body that governs civil
aviation.
The final deadline for the implementation of the ICAO LPRs is March 5th
2011. This deadline was established in 2007 when it became apparent many
ICAO Member States would miss the initial March 2008 deadline. States
that did not comply in time were required to develop implementation
plans and post them on the ICAO website. In October 2010, a resolution
was passed that although the Member States had made 'substantial
efforts' to comply, some had encountered difficulty and requested extra
time to comply.
RELTA assesses the language skills of pilots and air traffic controllers
in aviation related contexts. RMIT Training provides aviation language
training and testing solutions in partnership with the international
aviation community. Delivery partners include major airlines, air
navigation service providers and specialist aviation training
organisations.
One delivery partner, Randy Stone, Manager of Airclass France, recently
said, "RELTA is certainly the Rolls Royce of tests of aviation English.
The infrastructure is impressive and the test itself leaves the
candidate with the impression they have been tested in an environment
that simulates their own operational experience".
RELTA has been endorsed by the Australian Government Civil Aviation
Safety Authority (CASA) and equivalent bodies in regions such as the
Middle East, Europe, Asia and South America.
